The Digital Self

Documentary | 52 min | German

Hardly anything in the world works without a PC any more. Practically, everything is controlled by computer - with networks, communication, sending and receiving all digital. Our world is an analogue world that is increasingly being dominated by binary processes and programs. This digital omnipresence has co-opted us and is continuing to grow in strength; it won't be long, for example, until household technology can only be controlled digitally, and even remotely, or until 2018 when the first self-driving vehicles hit the roads in California. How much "digital" does humankind need? And how much "human" does digital need? This documentary illuminates digital environments and descriptively tells its story using four different generations - ranging from the generation that was not born into the telematics society through to Generation Z. Shot in Austria, Germany, England and USA.
